Artist Bio:

Omaha-based artist, Monica Maxwell grew up in Houston, Texas. Relocating to Offutt AFB with her family, she pursued her art degree, graduating from Creighton University (2019). After so many changes and a recent autism diagnosis, this creature of nature started to embrace the new environment that surrounded her. Several years later, the Great Plains finally felt like home. Initially, Monica specialized in portraiture; building on years of experience in photography studios, freelance work, and commissions. She found success in regional and international juried exhibitions, and her solo show. The pandemic allowed the artist to adjust and immerse herself back into the natural world. Rejuvenated, Monica found her vocation. Devoted to conservation, she understands people’s compulsion to protect what they love. Through observation, we develop respect and understanding – a prerequisite for that love. Her work offers moments people can connect with.

Accolades:

"The Dance" was chosen for the 2021 Nebraska Biennial and the jurors {Russ Erpelding, Nicole Herden, Amy Morris, Anne Pagel, and John Thein) selected it to be one of two photographs from the exhibition to travel to the Museum of Nebraska Art for their Selections from the 2021 Nebraska Biennial exhibition. The following year, 2022, I was featured by Sony as one of their Sony Alpha photographers.
